IC Information

The following are questions pertaining to knowledge that’s readily accessible to characters.

What happens when my character arrives?

They will wake up in what will be their room, dressed in one of their new period outfits; in addition, a unique miniature porcelain statue (of any of the various graveyard statues found throughout history) will appear on the silver tray in the center of the Dining Hall table. That statue will appear and disappear as your character does from the game.

What are in the rooms?
All bedrooms are well furnished (comfortable beds, sitting areas, chests, crystal glasses of alcohol and boxes of tobacco for characters with those vices, fireplaces, rugs, desks, chairs, oil lamps, plenty of candles, wash basin, some have balconies, etc.). In addition, each room has a large wardrobe filled with period clothing (which can range in time anywhere from medieval to Victorian) that mysteriously fits your character perfectly.

How can my character tell it’s their room?
On the outside of the bedroom door will be a carving matching your character’s unique statue. The carving will disappear if your character does. Of course, this means your character and the rest of the characters have to figure this out.

What happened to my characters clothes and items from his/her/its world?
Simply, all of them are gone. Well, all but one. You may choose one item (something that your character either can’t live without or something he/she/it deems important) for your character to keep. Everything else? It didn’t come with them. However, old-fashioned paper, ink, pens, books, and other things of that sort can be found in the rooms.

What if my character canonly carries a weapon, but it’s not his/her/its most important item?
Then you must choose between the weapon and the item. They cannot have both.

Are there any weapons in the castle?
Nope~.

What if my character’s item is part of a set of some sort?
Hit and miss here; if it’s something small, like a stationary set or a pair of shoes, then that’s okay. But don’t expect to bring an acoustic sound system for a guitar.

Where is the castle located?
Characters will have no idea where on the globe or the universe it is, but it is situated on a rocky island, sheer cliffs leading far down to the ocean below. There are no signs of land or evidence of any other life as far as the eye can see off the island.

What else makes this castle so strange?
Quite a few things, really.

For one, the castle is drenched in perpetual night, though the weather and temperature can vary with the appropriate seasons.

For another, all colors on objects and people seem muted, desaturated to the point where very little of the pigment is noticeable. The only exceptions to this are fire and blood.

The castle itself is odd; for one thing, the entire structure is a very strange, eclectic mix of all styles of architecture and furnishings from the medieval to the late Victorian eras. Electricity does not exist. In addition, strange things happen in the blink of an eye, without sound and without warning. For instance, the castle will change floor plan configuration, rooms might become temporarily meshed together, all doors and windows disappearing if your character gets too far away from another certain character, among other inexplicable events. These things happen at random, though they happen in bursts one at a time. They're events that won't happen simultaneously, and will only occur after a "recovery" period.

There are a few daily occurrences that happen in the blink of an eye. Rooms will be tidied, clothes cleaned, food served, plates cleared, washed, and put away after the meal, that sort of thing. Characters won’t be able to explain it.

My character has super/magical/mutant powers. Are those still intact?
Only to a small degree. All powers must be extremely limited. For example, let’s say the Flash comes to the Castle; he would only be able to run quickly for about 5 minutes total throughout a single 24 hour period. Or if Harry Potter shows up, he would only be able to cast 3 average-difficulty spells in a 24 hour period. It’s up to you to come up with how your character’s powers are limited, though. This means individual personalities and socialization will have to trump special physical strength/skill.

What sort of rooms are around the castle?
Oh, all sorts of rooms! Trophy rooms, drawing rooms, card rooms, a huge library, the dining hall, kitchens, pantry rooms, bathrooms, sitting rooms, “sun rooms”, billiard rooms, children’s toy rooms, an observatory, a winter garden (with dead plants), parlors, drawing rooms, a small art gallery, attics, basements, storage closets, and bedrooms (of course).

Is there anywhere to go outside the castle?
There’s a small bit of land that’s not pure rocky cliff. It includes a dead outdoor garden with a thick bramble maze, graveyard with illegible headstones, and a small dead woodsy area.

OOC Information

The following information is not accessible to characters.

How does my character really get to the Castle?

What’s going on is that the dimensions between all realities, all universes, and all time periods are colliding, a rare cosmic/supernatural/mythological occurrence, if you will. As such, characters are being thrown into a single dimension created by this exact phenomena. And if something seems off or impossible (such as characters waking up in new clothes), remember that nothing is impossible when all realities exist in the same space. In fact, that is also why characters are able to be peacefully brought to the Castle without ever being aware of having left their homes in the first place. Everything happens so quickly, no one notices any shift in their reality.

Imagine putting the Twilight Zone into a game; that’s basically what this is.

How does food appear and how are the rooms and clothes cleaned so quickly?
Servants exist in a pocket dimension of the Castle’s, one in which time moves much slower than in the Castle. Because of this, as servants work at a normal pace, their handiwork cannot be seen by any eyes of those in the Castle dimension. In addition, this odd pocket dimension keeps all sound created by the servants from transferring over.

Okay, I don’t have time to play at the moment, but my character is already in the game. WHAT DO?
No worries! Just leave ‘em. If that character becomes inactive, his/her/its porcelain miniature will disappear and they "will be sent to a different pocket dimension", in which they’ll be immersed in a stasis-like sleep. If you find yourself with more time and start playing them again, his/her/its miniature will reappear, and they will awaken back in their room, as if nothing happened at all. Heck, they won’t even think they’ve been gone at all. This way, you can come and go with characters and play them as you please without any stressing over activity.

What sort of characters can come here? Are there any limitations?
All characters are welcome, canon and OC alike. Because the dimensions are colliding across ALL realities, time periods, and universes, anybody can end up in the Castle. The "real" King Louis can be right next door to Night at the Museum's Amelia Earhart, who shares a room with DCAU's Wonder Woman. And the only limitations are those on powers, as discussed before.

As far as OCs go, just make sure you believe them to be satisfactorily fleshed out and believable. Check out the Sue Litmus Test if you want to double check or if you're unsure!

Will live action characters react to animated characters, or vice versa, just because they're different media styles?
No. Characters will not notice that one character is animated and the other is not. Everyone looks just as real as everyone else from the characters' point of view.

Are there any language barriers my character will have to overcome?
Nope! Regardless of their country/planet of origin, all characters will hear others in their native language. The only difference is characters will have their own dialects, accents, and inflection. Example: Mulan would hear Spiderman speaking Madarin with a particular American accent, while he would hear her speaking English with a particular Chinese accent.

Is it alright if I flop up with a character I’m more or less just trying out?
It’s a private game. I’m sure we’ll all understand! After all, it’s not like we’re going to let in some stranger elitist RPer. I just don't recommend continuing to play them if you know (and if the rest of us know) you're not doing them justice and if you don't intend to improve. That combination just makes it awkward for everyone.

What should I do once I’m in the game?
There will be a link for OOC information and contacts on the main page. It’s just a way to keep track of who plays who and their contact info, that way we can plot and get to know the basics of a character at first glance. Please fill that out first, and then you’re free to post and tag as you please.

Is there any limit to how many characters I can play
Nope! Just try to avoid musecest. :)
